I got this one way too quickly. I thought it'd be a little bit harder but I'm not complaining, Lol. Once again, this was recorded by my friend Draglitch on his game save data after I sent him the replays, so you won't see any medals for my previous Spell Card clears in the Spell Card history displayed above next to the Spell Card name.
For experienced players, this game is quite easy because of it's ice attack and short story. As for moderate and newer danmaku gamers, this game can present quite a challenge even on the easier difficulties. I expected this clear to be a lot harder but I did quite a few mess ups here and there but still managed to clear it in one continue.
The first stage doesn't present much of a problem after a little strategizing. I didn't freeze some of the attacks during the part after the midboss encounter with Lily White because Lunatic mode has so many damn bullets to freeze you won't have to worry in the later levels about trying to raise your shot power. So I took the easy way out.
Luna's non-spells are the trickiest out of her attacks. The first one is quite easy to deal with but the second one made me flinch and bomb. Her actual spells are quite easy provided you properly manage your ice power.
Stage 2 opens with some fairies that shoot lines of green bullets. I avoid the first wave because I wanted to have enough energy for the second wave right after. The trick is to freeze then stream as soon as the death bullets start flying. As for the fairies that shoot blue rings of bullets, I hadn't really thought of a strategy for them when playing so I just panicked a lot with freeze and bomb. For Daiyousei's midboss attack, improper use of the ice power at the beginning forced me to bomb and I made two unnecessary mistakes that costed me a life.
The trick to Star's non-spells is to try and freeze them before they make contact with the sides of the screen. This is absolutely crucial for non-spell 2. Unfortunately, I panic for most of the fight against Star except for her last one which is ridiculously easy.
Stage 3 opens up with bullet spam so save up your ice power until the bullet spams get more dense. For the knife part, I don't shoot because I don't want to risk any fairies dying and shooting death bullets at me. However, during the fire ball parts, it's absolutely necessary to stream and freeze. Sunny's non-spell is very unpredictable for me so I bomb. As for her midboss spell, I usually go for a No-Freeze clear, but I messed up.
I can't really explain some of the boss fight for the third stage. It's more practice dodging and learning the attacks. Quite self explanatory, really. It's up to you to know how to dodge properly. No cool and fancy tricks, just proper usage of the ice power will keep you alive for quite a bit of the boss fight.
I may try to 1CC a different route on Lunatic later. I'm just absolutely in love with this game.
Knowing when not to shoot + Grazing + Timing for Freezing seems to be the key in beating Lunatic.
ZUN bless youtube for increased 15 minutes video time, =D

@sedrife Yes, this game is amazing. It's not like your traditional Touhou games. This game not only takes the reflexes, dodging skills and careful pattern reading, but also the the strategical planning and smarts too. Quite definitely one of the best Touhou games out there for those who wish to spice up their danmaku experience.

@xShouToramarux you seem to know a bit about touhou, so tell me...do you have to play through every game in order to get the story?
UberGamer1030 1 year ago
@UberGamer1030 Not exactly. There are quite a lot of things that happen between each game as well as before and after. In order to get most of it, you'd have to carefully read the omake.txt in each game folder as well as read up on the written works.
If you're looking to educate yourself on Touhou, I'd say your best bet would be TouhouWiki. They have a lot of helpful information as well as download links to translated written works for fans to read.
