Materials for the Arts (MFTA), NYC Department of Cultural Affairs/
Friends of Materials for the Arts (FOMA)2000 - Present

Management and Growth:
•Manage and provide oversight of a $1.5 million annual budget of both MFTA and Friends of Materials for the Arts and a 25,000-square-foot warehouse facility;
•Supervise a staff of 13 plus volunteers and interns;
•Developed strategic plan for organization, fund-raising and web site design, with outside consultants.
•Managed the programs move from a 10,000-square-foot facility in Manhattan to 25,000 square feet of space in Long Island City.
•Set up collaborations with other city agencies, DSNY, DOE, DJJ, DOA, HHC and Parks Dept. on interagency initiatives.

Fundraising and Development:

• Secure, implement and administer grants from state and federal agencies; Increased staff by four by securing funding through grants and commitment from Friends of Materials for the Arts.
•Expanded distribution capabilities by securing funding for additional trucks, evening shopping, a volunteer program and a technology initiative.
•Established a separate 501C-3 to expand budget and programming to complement NYCs financial commitment;
•Developed a dynamic cross-industry board of directors to appropriately penetrate industries that may serve as suppliers and/or financial donors;
•Fund-raised $260,000 annually for the last five years from corporate and private foundations;

Program Management and Innovation

•Created a variety of initiatives to support the infrastructure and enhance the programming at MFTA.
•Developed and implemented a year round Educational Program directing staff of artist consultants.
•Initiated the expansion of our program facilities by an additional 10,000 square feet to accommodate growth and the development of a Reuse Education Center.
•Managed increase of Recipient Base to 3,775 from 2700 in 2000.
•Founding member of the Reuse Alliance an industry group to serve and support the reuse community in the metropolitan area.
•Serves on the Advisory Board of Pentacle, a dance service organization in NYC.
•Serves on the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservations panel for the Environmental Excellence Awards.

Development/Education Administrator

First person hired to expand MFTAs program to include all DOE school sites. Duties included writing all program materials; public speaking on behalf of the program; working in conjunction with the Office of the Arts and Special projects at the DOE; planned and led workshops for DOE and other not-for-profit organizations; increased membership of schools from 189 to 1,000 in two years.
