I'm not intending to be rude to anyone that has written me about this. I guess the people that do are just trying to help.

Jesus' stance on psych meds is... NOBODY KNOWS! Jesus doesn't talk about psych meds in the bible.

Would you tell a cancer patient to quit chemo and follow Jesus? Would you tell a cancer patient to quit the meds just improve their diet, exercise and take vitamins?

Meds I take:

Lamictal 250mg - Mood Stabilizer
Stopped that roller coaster of emotions feelings. Allowed me to feel more in control of myself and my emotions.

Risperdal .5mg - anti-psychotic
Stopped the really extreme mood swings where I would do thing like break stuff

Prozac 60mg - anti-depressant
Helped with the constant negative obsessive thoughts and self talk I felt trapped in all day. Made my thoughts more bearable to live with.

Buspar anti-anxiety
A non-narcotic anti-anxiety medication. It's just a little relaxing. If I take a lot it makes me sleepy. I don't get doped up from it. It kind of just relaxes me like smoking a cigarette or having 1 drink would. I take it if I am having a panic attack or if I feel one coming on. Also I take it sometimes if I have so much anxiety that my head and neck hurt. I doing really good so I rarely take it now. :)

  • I encourage you to keep sharing your strength and hope and how God has used scientific knowledge of our time to help us overcome these terrible brain disorders.

Some day I heard once That we will look back on the wonders of medicine in this day and age and view it like we view the use of leaches and drilling holes in peoples heads to let out evil spirits. But until then I am glad for the advancements in medicine and that I live now. Lobotomies and such are a thing of the past.

  • @disposophobic Thank you for the comments. That is interesting to think about how far we have come in treating psychiatric illness and how far we still have to go. I am glad to hear that the medication has been helpful for you!

  • I enjoy sharing with the people at my church the fact that I take anti-depressants in the hope of helping my fellow Christians to see that one can follow Christ and still struggle with a mental illness. I have a few fellow members who think I talk about psychology too much. Imagine that. I think God helps us through others in addition to the usual ways.

  • @rainbowheartlove1 I agree. I am glad to hear you are trying to raise awareness about mental health issues by being open about your own experiences with it.

  • i totally agree with you i take deppression meds and anxiety meds and i completly swear over them. if i was not taking them then i wouldnt be typing this message right now.

  • @emogirllover16 I feel the exact same way.

  • Jesus.. HAHA, you believe in the easter bunny too?

  • @TheShootTruth10 I don't think it's as much about "advancements" as it is that we have learned how to "play God" by polluting our soil, ruining our water, etc. Children born today are not as healthy as those of years ago and are certainly not being raised on "living" foods that were available before farming was replaced by technology.

  • when jesus was here no one had these things. they didnt have all these advancements. sometimes you need some medicine.

  • 1. Jesus didn't mention many things that plague people today, but generally speaking, the basic issues of human life are addressed in the Bible. Jesus is to be understood in light of what the Bible says about Him. We can go to the source of our knowledge about Jesus to find answers to other things.

    2. Sometimes Jesus healed people instantly. Sometimes not.

    3. Some people follow Jesus and take meds, some follow Jesus without meds, some take meds without Jesus. Some do none of the above.

  • Your awesome!

  • Thank you for your blog and your courage. You are wonderful and beautiful and have been very helpful. My daughter has BPD (she is 26) but refuses to accept it. She has a 3 year old daughter. I try to read or listen to as much as I can regarding this condition so I can be as knowledgable as possible. Again I say, I just love you and keep up the good work.
