Handy Robots

My Master of Animation final project.

Set in an empty workshop 'Handy Robots' is a short story about a robot in need of somebody to love him, but working hard to create the robotic hand of his dreams isn't enough. He must now try and win her heart (and err...hand). This isn't easy as he isn't the only one trying to get the girl.

Originally I had the idea to create a robotic hand and a human hand doing various things to try and out do the other. However as there wasn't any motivation in the original scenario the story was developed to include a female interest, and the human hand was changed into a second robot hand. I tried to go with a very dirty grunge look in my models and in the set. I did this to make film more interesting visually than it would have been having everything look clean and evenly lit. From a technical point of view everything was kept as economical as possible, thus keeping render times to a minimum. This paid off as more time could be spent working on the film later in the production. I have learnt a lot creating 'handy robots', and while the year spent making it was tough, I'm glad that I now have something I can be proud of.
