We used to play this game every lunch break when we were kids. It has a two player mode and we loved to build a fortress and then expand it until the H-shaped critters had no more room and exploded ^_^

You can download it here: http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/beast.htm
Use DosBox to run it

  • The original developer, Dan Baker, remade this game in JavaScript.

It's currently in the Chrome store for free. Just search "beast" in the Chrome store and you'll find it.

  • @HoserNo0b Cool! :D Now all they have to add is a two player mode and I can call some people I haven't seen in 20 years and ask them if they want to have a go at building 'reservations' again :P

  • @Siemah The Developer of the game is my dad...

He says that he's probably not going to visit that game again and update it (multilayer mode, and high score board working).

But, good thing you like it. ;)

  • @HoserNo0b Haha, that is awesome! :D

We spent so many hours playing this game. It is probably the first 'sandbox game' I ever played and in some ways it is still an influence on the game concepts I'm working on these days. Not a lot of people know about this game, but it's one of the great classics for me!

  • this game was awesome. I found a version of it online a few years ago. Anyone remember a game called "Wombat" havent had any luck finding. It was a graphical dungeon explorer game, your character appeared to look like a vase or goblet....

  • @surelite If you Google for 'WOMBATS II by Alex Leavens' you'll get a page with info on the unreleased follow-up game. It appears to have been created by him and Shirley A. Russell, so I suggest e-mailing him for the Atari files :)

  • I have been looking for this game for 15 years or longer! Thank you. Never knew the name of this game, but i was playing it when i was about 4 or 5 years old in early 90s.

  • @bijou2212 In the video description ;)

  • where can we find this game?

  • It does feel like games were better in those days sometimes. Back then it was all about gameplay :D
