On August 24, 2011, community members from Arlington, Va marched to a forum about the so-called "Secure Communities" program. After numerous speeches denouncing the program, two local immigrants with deportation orders confronted Marc Rapp, who oversees Secure Communities, demanding that he shut down the program all together. Hundreds then stood up and walked out of the meeting in defiance of the Task Force, which they called a "sham".

  • NO sympathy for the ILLEGALS!!!! GO HOME!!

  • Illegal is illegal! If they want their families to stay together ...stop coming here illegally and stay home!

  • Why hasn't the woman who is speaking out learned English?? Go back to where ever you came from!

  • what do people illegally in this country not understand? illegal is illegal

I know secure communities is supposed to go after the real violent criminals, however anyone in the US illegal is violating US immigration laws whether they like it or not

  • The sad thing is, I think, that this protest will be for naught. They will probably continue to do what they are doing regardless of the outcry. If they sat there and respectfully gave their testimony, their voices would not be heard. The bottom line is that there is not enough media attention to affect any policy change.

  • These two women had the opportunity to sign up and give their testimony in turn like everybody else. Instead they interrupted just as Fr. Grinnell was called on to speak. A few speakers later, half of the protestors walked out after one of them announced that they were wasting their time. The video doesn't show that many people stayed in the room out of respect for the many opponents of Secure Communities who were waiting to give their testimony. This was a disrespectful media stunt.

  • Wow! This is so amazing. Congratulations on this inspiring action and keep it up! It is incredible to see these brave women standing up for their rights and our communities. End Secure Communities!
