Self organization is the process by which simple rules of local interaction produce complex patterns. Robot swarms with no central control may self organize and provide communications and/or sensing coverage over a wide area. The global behavior of the robot swarm is an emergent effect of the local interactions among swarm members. The following simulations demonstrate the self organizing behavior of robotic swarms in environments with and without obstacles.
