Serenity is pulled in by an Alliance cruiser while investigating a spaceship that was attacked by Reavers. Simon and River must hide to prevent capture, while something is wrong with the lone survivor of the attacked spaceship.

@JOEYnoJUSTU22 Mal did tell the alliance officer to destroy the derelict, even though he originally was going to tow it back. Though if he had towed it back one of his superiors would've probably destroyed it anyways to cover up Miranda, so in a way you're right. That may have happened anyways.
