What do you get when passionate youth turn out to the Oregon State Capitol?

You get an energetic and spirited march and rally!

On Saturday, 268 people gathered at the Oregon State Capitol to participate in a Children's March & Rally for Immigration Reform. The children with their adult supporters joined together to call on Federal and State Legislators to:

• Respect the 14th Amendment. Do not take away our children's citizenship.
• Stop dividing families
• Keep racial profiling laws like SB1070 out of Oregon
• Stop local law enforcement from doing the job of ICE. Our State Police, County Sheriff and City Police belong to our communities, not the federal government.
• Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform NOW!

Over the last several months, immigration restrictionists and right-wing extremist politicians in Congress have been calling for a change in the 14th Amendment eliminating citizenship to babies born on United States soil. Instead of promoting immigration reform that would overhaul a severely flawed and broken system, they see it politically opportune to deny citizenship and promote deportation of infants and children.

This is just one of the latest stunts being promoted by extremists to avoid dealing with an important national issue that needs a federal response. Much like passage of Arizona's Racial Profiling Law SB1070, the build-up of troops on the U.S.-Mexico border and the variety of failed enforcement-only policies promoted by the far-right, these wrong headed and misguided schemes are just dividing families and delaying the benefit real reform would bring to our country.

There is currently legislation in both houses of Congress that would overhaul the nation's broken immigration system.

  • The world has stopped birth right citizenship and the US will too.

  • This people want us to respect the 14th Amedment but they dont want to respect the immigration laws. DEPORT THEM ALL INCLUDING THEIR ANCHOR BABIES.

  • "Respect the 14th Ammendment"

Holy sh*t, that's classic - like every illegal who pumps out anchor babies by the bushel is showing 'respect' for said ammendment, right? LMFAO!!!!!

And, when even the race card is useless, trot out the kiddies - hooray for exploitation.

  • This is child abuse. Every adult and parent involved in this should be fully investigated by child protective services. Exploiting children is disgraceful. The adults who did this to children should be prosecuted for abusing children and promoting lawbreaking.

  • While the federal government may have original jurisdiction to enforce federal immigration laws, and declare war, the federal government does not have exclusive jurisdiction to enforce federal immigration laws. Under laws enacted by Congress, states have concurrent jurisdiction and are requested and encouraged to assist the enforcement of federal immigration laws. US States are encouraged to engage in war, if invaded.

    See: Article 1 Section 10, Clause 3 and Article 4 Section 4.

  • @borderraven,

287(g)(10)(B) (RE (8USC1357)(g)(10)(B)) is a federal directive informing the state governments that state and local police are requested, encouraged and authorized by Congress to enforce federal immigration laws.

SB1070 is a chain of command directive from state government directing state and local police officers to enforce federal immigration laws per 287(g) (8USC1357).

  • SB1070

Governors do not write legislation, that's what your elected representatives do -- write legislation. Governors choose to veto or sign legislation.

Arizona did what all states agree to do when they join, yes join, the United States.

All states are bound by Article 4 Section 4 to protect our Union of States from harm, invasion, domestic violence, etc.

If you do not like how this works, please realize nobody is keeping you in the USA, and you are free to exercise your option to leave.

  • please trun yourselfs in to i.c.e.
