The «Encores Fado» project is born out of the meeting between Portuguese guitar player Custódio Castelo and singer Margarida Guerreiro. At first only to be presented in concert, due to the success achieved, in Portugal and abroad, both Castelo and Guerreiro changed plans and got to will this project to be recorded. That's what happens now with the launching of «Live», the first out of three albums to be released soon.
In this intimate album, everything turns around the Portuguese guitar, to result in a contemporary approach to Fado, a little different form the traditional one. Thou, here and there, close to the popular music tradition, some other musical tonalities can be heard, like jazz or classic ones. That's comprehensible having in mind the musicians standing by Custódio Castelo, saying Carlos Garcia (in classic guitar) and Carlos Menezes (doublebass).
It's from all this «mélange» that we come to find some beautiful Fados, emphasized in Margarida Guerreiro's superb and sensual voice, in which several heritages and traditions come together, breaking down frontiers, showing us new musical ways of understanding the Fado. Enriching the melodies, the astonishing lyrics of some of the most recognized poets of the Portuguese language, such are those like Fernando Pessoa, David Mourão Ferreira, Cecília Meireles, Pedro Homem de Mello, Amália Rodrigues, Jorge Fernando, José Luís Gordo, Mário Rainho, Alberto Janes, among others.
Following «Live», which was recorded in a live concert at the Mercy Church in Montemor-o-Novo, other albums will be released: at first, «Inédito», according to Custódio Castelo, «an album musically a little different from the first one, thou poetry will still be the basis for the music, revisiting Portuguese poets like Luís Vaz de Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Florbela Espanca, Vasco de Lima Couto, Pedro Homem de Mello, among others»; later, the third moment of the Encores Fado project with the release of «Encontros», an album that will give us some of the best moments of the «meetings» of Custódio Castelo with other musicians, with other sounds. Still in a very precocious moment, the musician considers it some kind «weird».
