Restraint and Seclusion are Dangerous and must be Banned!
In 2004, Jonathan was abused at a private school for children with autism, in Staatsburg, New York. ...Jonathan was later moved to a different facility near his parent's home. His parents hoped things would be very different there... In February of 2007, at the age of 13, Jonathan was Killed by his "caregiver" during a restraint. The man and driver of the van sought no medical attention for Jonathan, but drove around with Jonathan's lifeless body for about 90 minutes before returning to the facility... The man who killed Jonathan is currently serving 5-15 years in State prison for manslaughter...

  • only 5 to 15 years?! these people need to be given the DEATH penalty!! i hope the people who did this too him rot in hell!

  • Watching this is painful. Concealing inhumane treatment, sadly is still widespread within most facilities. Most people are not aware of the horrible abuses. Can't understand the evil that still goes on and all in the name of caring. It's unbelievable that there is any tolerance for this kind of abuse, yet there is and these people who are to be the caregivers are protected. When will it stop.

  • my heart goes out to the family and of course to poor Jonathan whose life was taken too soon. May he rest in peace xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Not only that there is something worse, a severely autistic man was left in a van in Pennsylvania near Philadelphia.

  • Please, hand over that lousy bastard that did this to Jonathan and I will give him pain and suffering beyond human understanding. Rest Jonathan, my little friend.

  • children need human rights laws passing before they are killed or maimed, its the same world wide, kids cant speak for themselves so are easy targets for abuse, depending on age or disability how they going to tell, if they can talk they are threatened by the bullies to keep quiet, there should be specific very harsh laws for anyone who commits a crime against children, there is no excuse that can justify abuse of any kind not even restraining a child .

  • It's amazing how it takes a terrible tragedy to get these sort of laws passes. I hope Jonathan is with God right now :)

  • Actually another thing happened in Pennsylvania when a 20 year old man was left in a van to die.

  • Phone: call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your representative’s office. Once connected, ask to speak with an office aide who handles education issues. Identify yourself and ask the aide to “Please tell Representative (NAME) that I support the Keeping All Students Safe Act (H.R. 1381).”

  • omg my heart bleeds for his family...what a beautiful child he was...my 11 yr old grandson is austic and I always worry about him getting abused in the public school he attends..You certainly cant educate people that still live in the ice age and think everything should be solved with violence..these people should of known better then anyone how autistic children are and how to treat them.they're no less a human being for having autism, they're beautiful and more perfect than us in my eyes..

  • @shortiilove212 In some schools they do restraints but the staff need to be trained and have a certificate in training but aparently this people who killed this boy did'nt have enough training.
