We all agree that a nuclear Iran would be highly undesirable, but the costs of military action would strongly outweigh any benefits. Our greatest concern with Iran is not the weapons themselves, but the character of this regime, and attacking Iran would only extend the shelf life of the most radical elements in power. Iran also has influence over five major areas of U.S. foreign policy: Afghanistan, Iran, Arab-Israeli conflict, terrorism, and energy security; bombing Iran would exacerbate all of those issues. Finally, bombing Iran would justify their desire for a nuclear deterrent. They would simply reconvene this program, but with no inspectors the only way to prevent it would be to have U.S. troops in Iran.
Congratulations publically, ks, for your recognition as being one of Washington's most influential people of the year. Keep studying. Damet Garm!
