My daughter, who is almost six, came home from school recently and announced she was voting for Obama. Since we don't talk politics with her (yet) I was a bit surprised. Then it happened again a couple of weeks later. So I decided to sit down and tape her - and ask her why she wanted to vote for Obama. This is the second take (couldn't hear her the first time). What shocked me is how similar her answers are to other Americans who want Obama to be President. And her final answer at the end.

My only problem with Obama is that we don't know him. He has spent his life carefully avoiding specifics regarding his views - he didn't tell his law classes his views on the law; he voted "present" rather than take a stand on hundreds of bills in the Illinois Senate; and even in his Presidential run he has avoided specifics. I find him inspirational...but not informational. So yes I am trying to make a point.

As for McCain. I miss the old McCain - and I normally vote Democrat especially at the national level. And I am very disappointed in his selection of Sarah Palin.

And yes I know McCain was a Navy pilot - I screwed up trying to keep it simple for a five year old.

  • Is it important to "know" Obama? How well can you "know" a candidate? What is important is to know what he/she stands for!

Do you really know McCain? Who is the real McCain - the "old" one or the "new" one? Think about: you don't know McCain at all! All you can know is what he stands for: staying in Iraq forever and defending the same interests and policies that Bush defended (those of the GOP)!

  • Yes - you need to know if he is going to risk it all. Will he face up to tough choices or just take the popular path? Will he go against the Democratic Party?

John McCain risked his career many times standing up to fellow Republicans. He gave his views - not the party views. In his desire to be President he has changed his approach - which is regrettable - but I do know when it comes to vetos he has made the tough choices before.

I know more than the soundbites you mention about McCain.

  • Are Obama supporters this desperate now, to use a kid to blindly say she wants Obama for no reason at all?

  • @WestCoastJoe43 I have school aged children, and you are right on target, on all counts. Dealing with these schools, is like hell on earth.

  • If this had been my child, I would have been all over that school raising hell. School is not the place to be pushing political agendas. Worst yet, we're talking 5yr. olds here. I can only imagine what kind of incentive$ this school recieved, for brain washing these children. I wonder if this childs' teacher taught who the 1st president was, since she was on the subject. For a childs' best interest, parents really need to stay on top of these schools. Parents must stay a step ahead, always.

  • This poor child has been brain washed by her teacher who is nothing more than a puppet for the union. The father tries his best, but its futile considering she is with the leftist puppet teacher 5 days a week for 7 hours a day. I was moved when she said "the guy up in heaven" I must admit. Another few years in the school system, that will be gone from her too along with the Pledge of Allegiance. Now if Im wrong on all counts, and I may be, the father should be ashamed of himself.

  • hahahah your parent teach u wrong ...

  • Obama=Zionist shill

  • I don't care if she doesn't know or not..Or if they brain wash her..they did a good job..BARACK OBAMA WN and Mc Cain didn't .. black floks and the white people who was behide us we there..thank you JESUS..

  • I've seen the same bs with McCain. People teaching there little kids to say "F%$# Obama" same diffrence. Kids should be able to be kids.

  • Wow...no one reads the info piece. This is an anti-Obama spot...why? Because she doesn't REALLY know why she wants Obama...just like most Americans.

And none of this is scripted. This was the second try - the first one she was standing furhter away and you couldn't hear her.

I wish President-elect Obama well. My only real concern is I don't know enough about his views and plans and how he reacts to the tough and unpopular choices.

  • Very smart girl. Her future in the democratic party is assured.
