@jackhammer111 Also, how about instead of just insulting their performance you give them some advice as to how to improve it? Certainly that would make for a far more productive comment, and it would give them something to work on so that no more supposed "worst versions in the world" have to happen. And on a side note, if you think this is the worst version in the world then you'd be surprised at how many middle and high school jazz bands have maimed this song.
@jackhammer111 I have listened to the real thing :) My comment was written over a year ago and I've matured quite a bit musically since then, but at the time this video was helpful because it was the exact same arrangement that we had been doing in my school, and I was struggling on a few of the rhythms from this particular arrangement that the original wasn't helping me with. I wasn't looking to this example to help me feel the swing of it, but simply to figure out the rhythms themselves.
@cuttlefishii You're kidding right? Why not listen to the real thing? "A String of pearls" written and arraigned by Jerry Gray for the Glenn Miller Band. They weren't the most popular big band of the era by accident. If you want to hear "the swing" in the rhythm, they are the model. That beat is the grandfather of rock and roll. It is where magic lies.
I remember a George Carlin routine about the idea that somewhere, there must be a worst doctor in the world.... and someone has an appointment with him tomorrow.
Along those lines.. I guess someone has to play the worst version of "A String of Pearls" in the world, and I just listened to it while typing this. I started typing after the first line of the song. It was that obvious. I can not imagine standing up in front of people and letting this trainwreck happen.
