A plantain is a tropical fruit that looks like a banana. Plantain must be cooked before you can eat it. Do not substitute plantains for bananas.

oh..wow!..i didn't know that..thank you..and thanks for the recipe i was gonna make some khao dome but wasn't sure about the plantain..but it's a good thing i didn't substitute it with bananas..so where can i get plantains at? and THANK YOU for your wonderful and tasty recipes..

Most Asian stores will carry plantians or look for supermarkets that carry tropical fruits.

Oh my gosh. This stuff is amazing. I tried it a long time ago; a friend of mine made it for me. (I don't think her version had all the rice though... but this looks awesome, especially with the coconut milk!)
