CP River Sub Action - Afternoon of 2-4-2008

In this video, there are four trains: a coal train, an intermodal, the Empire Builder, and a yard job. The first train surprised me, so I didn't have time to set up the tripod, but it's still held very still. The first two trains are seen next to the cement plant between Red Wing and Frontenac, and the other two at the Amtrak station in Red Wing.

Is this Empire Builder from Seattle or from Portland, Oregon? Where is Red Wing?

The Empire Builder travels between Seattle, Washington and Chicago, Illinois. Red Wing is a community of about 15,000 located in southeast Minnesota, along the Mississippi River. It is famous for Red Wing Shoes. Nearby Lake City is the birthplace of water skiing.

maybe its how they set it up in Spokane when they connect the two sections of the Empire builder together.Maybe, that's my guess!

Yes, probably.  The train was delayed because of avalanches, so it would only make sense to reverse the westbound train after it reached the furthest west stop before the avalanche. (And then bus the passengers to Seattle.)

I wonder why they decided to run the Empire Builder in backwards order and with only one engine.

There were avalanche delays for this train. I also heard on the scanner that it was held up in Saint Paul for two and a half hours while they did something to the train.
