The popularity of Roto-Flapper Peening is exploding as an acceptable and inexpensive way to re-apply the peening process to a part after its been repaired. If a previously peened part suffers a knick or scratch that extends as little as 0.002" into the part, the part is subject to premature failure due to fracture. The knick or scratch can be repaired by blending the surface with light grinding. The problem is that the grinding removes the peened layer and the area must be re-peened. Since the area is typically small, Roto-Flapper Peening is an ideal and inexpensive way to accomplish this.
This video shows the dos and don'ts of flapper technique. Although these techniques are shown on an Almen strip, the same technique should be applied to the work area. Video provided by Electronics Inc. and is part of the training they provide. Visit www.electronics-inc.com for more information.
