This is a tutorial on how to do the full persian chainmaille weave. This is the weave I use as the basis of my "Woven V" earrings.

  • awesome. tonight was the first night I decided to look into chainmail weaving, have to say you are easy to understand. I have LOTS of copper wire, thinking about making a few small projects with that before I move on to buying metal. 6 years of collecting copper scrap comes in handy. are any of these more decorative linking patterns useful for articles other than jewelery? regardless I make that too so knowledge wont go to waste, thanks

  • @demnlordd666 The European weaves (6 in 1, 8 in 1, 10 in 1, etc) are pretty good for belts. You can see the basics in my ripple bracelet tutorial and then just modifying by adding additional rings (in sets of 2) to make the weave thicker and more belt like.

You could also modify some of these weaves for armor pieces. That requires more expertise than I have so you'd probably want to Google or check out Maille Artisans for help on that.

    Thanks for watching!

  • What size & gauge rings would you suggest are best for making this pattern?

  • @Garnetfire It really depends on the size and flexibility of the weave you want. For the smaller I use 5mm, 18g and for the larger 7mm 18g.

  • I worked for 2 hours last night trying to do this by reading directions, and looking at someone else's chain. No progress. You had me making this chain in 4 minutes. Well done, easy to understand. Thank you!

  • Sorry to say but it was confusing to me. It would help if you had used a thin tweezer to show the separation of the rings, than I would be able to follow. But, thank you for sharing. :)

  • Well, in my opinion, this one is the hardest to understand . Especially for the beginners. Not really watcher's friendly video.

I am sorry for the negativism, but I expected more from the professional.

  • Ive watched a few tutorials on this weave here and yours is the ONLY one that i truly understand. As soon as i started it just flowed :) thanks SO much!!!!!

  • Thank you for this tutorial, I have been wondering what I was doing wrong all this time. Now I know. God Bless and keep up the wonderful and unique work.
