This Chapter is somewhat troubling. It got me upset. Following an election that was highly dubious and was resolved only after the Supreme Court decided that a recount, ordered by the Florida Supreme Court, would violate the Equal Protection Clause, on January 20, 2001 George W. Bush took office. --- Less than two weeks later, Bush had a meeting in which according to Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes - among others Dick Cheney and Paul ONeill, then the Treasury Secretary participated. Lesley Stahl interviewed former Treasury Secretary Paul ONeill after a book was published by Simon & Schuster entitled The Price of Loyalty. Suskinds claim was that from day ONE the Iraq war was laid and sealed. The main source for this book was in fact Paul ONeill. --- According to Paul Suskind there are memos that even describe plans for a post occupation period. It was not until eight months later that an event happened that changed our lives, 9/11. The attack was followed by our invasion of Afghanistan. --- It also revived Bush and Cheneys Iraq vision. But how to sell it to the people, and maybe even more important Congress. The answer came after Dick Cheney visited the CIA offices eight times in two weeks: Weapons of Mass Destruction and Al Qaeda links! Not to be outdone by Cheney, Rumsfeld even knows where they are. Saddam has ties to terrorist and could provide them with weapons Finally the ingenious blitz of a speech writer who by the way later was hired by the Washington Post: Mushroom Clouds! That did it. Congress approved the Use of Armed Forces against Iraq. French President Jacques Chirac and Germanys Chancellor Gerhard Schröder spoke out strongly against the war on Iraq suggesting that may achieve just the opposite effect, a strengthening of Al Qaeda. Bushs mind was made up. Of course, there were no weapons of mass destruction, no chemical warfare weapons and no connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda. Indeed, the Sept. 11 panel said in a report that it has found no "collaborative relationship" between Iraq and al Qaeda. Something George W now readily admitted. Moreover, now the story changed actually it changed so often that it is difficult to keep track. Now we went into Iraq to eliminate a breeding ground for terrorists.
--- Oh yes, and the world is much better off without Saddam Hussein Coming to think of, of the top of my head I could make a whole list of leaders the world would be better off without, if you get my drift. Cheney as of today didnt get it. --- I may be dense, but I myself didnt quite get it, WHY exactly did we invade Iraq? Democratize the Middle East? God Lord, that will never happen. Even Rachel Maddow of MSNBC asked the question. Now that is an idea! It simply increased the value of crude as bin Laden demanded beyond $100 a barrel. And dont for one split second think that we will not be back to that level give or take 6 maybe ten months!
What is Rachel so jubilant about? Oil companies are back in town, make that Baghdad Now THAT makes sense. The Bush family being shareholders of big oil, Cheney having connection to Halliburton boy it all falls into place.

  • Stop the Theft of Iraqs Future! Iraqi Oil for the Iraqi People!

February 23 2008 marked the one-year anniversary of the Cabinets passage of the Iraq Oil Law. The Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions has called for an International Day of Action on Feb 22-23. People around the world held actions on these days in solidarity with the people of Iraq to say NO to the oil law and NO to foreign contracts under the occupation.

  • civil courage and Civil law should take care of that, but being tied down watching TV and obeying in being a consumer as just made this tool a blunt weapon!

  • Quis custoded ipsos custodes, who guards the guardians ... it is all just a little bit of history repeating.

Same old story, ages old, and always new.

    Nil novi sub sole

    Nil novi sub nocte, either.

Peace (as if that was likely anytime soon)

especially to the manufacturers of consent

  • Bush is a failure, but his defenders keep saying,"He's kept us safe for seven years. Not a single terrorist attack on U.S. soil for seven years." Our country is going down the toilet all on its own. Congress and Bush/Cheney are the dangerous ones.
