  • bravo!

  • Grande!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gaytenor you are totally right - De Muro is the one, also hear Ballin's version of this - also very "studied"

  • Do you think the pianist has ever seen the music before?

  • gaytenor: I defended this aria on the grounds that it's rarely performed and I did enjoy Maestro's Todisco's version. I enjoy hearing music from rarely performed Mascagni works like Isabeau. I disagree with your assertion that older musicians shouldn't attempt music that they had success with in the past. Age often brings an added "depth" to a performance that youth can't attain. In addition, I like to refrain from being overly critical- after all this forum is about "sharing", not perfection

  • Again, I refer you to the DeMuro version of this and the vocal score. Perhaps Signor Mascagni wrote directions for bleating, bad intonation, and an exceptionally weak low voice but I haven't found them in the piano-vocal score. I have learned an important lesson in life when your old don't do what you did when your young. If you thing this is good singing fine but the score says otherwise. Signor Todisco is well past whatever time he had in the sun that's for sure.

  • gaytenor: why don't you post your version and demonstrate how it should be sung?

  • This lovely music is being murdered here. Listen to Bernardo DeMuro's classic early recording to hear what this music can sound like. This is the kind of bray and belt music in high tessiturra that DelMonaco was good at and he did record two arias from the opera as did Gigli, DeMuro's versions are, however very, very special.

  • last comment - I think there is an orchestral version of this on Youtube with the same tenor - much better

  • I meant pianist not conductor sorry
