Testing the HTDZ HT-81 on battery power and phantom power. Recording into a Fostex FR2-LE External field recorder. Comparison with Rode Videomic. HTDZ is ok for $40 but has noticeable hiss on battery power, and is unusable with clicking and rumbling on Phantom power. Save another $100 for a used RODE NTG-2 or new Videomic.

  • @designedhead It's a mono mic. It will only record to one channel. That's how it is supposed to be (and should be)

  • @rallymatt thank you! i can just copy the left channel audio to the right channel?

  • Hi, I've seen that there are 2 types of this mic, the HT-81 and the HT-81A, according to the description the only difference between them is that the HT-81A has both DC1.5V and DC48V listed as power supply, while HT-81 only has DC1.5V. So, does this mean that HT-81 can not be powered via phantom power? Or it can be, but this clicking noise occurs? So with HT-81A there should be no clicking noise...or? I'm confused.

  • "A bunch of 12 year olds unboxing them and acting ridiculous" pretty much sums up every youtube review these days. Thanks for doing a real review.

  • I've got the short version, HTDZ-320A, in phantom power at 48V it makes clicking sounds, BUT at 24V phantom power it doesn't make any clicking sound, and the sound is cleaner from bg noise than recording with a new AA alkaline battery!
