After two months of learning the ground work basics and about a month of saddle time, both in the round pen and in the woods, Sheila, Jenna and I decided Ginger was ready for her first real trail ride. On Oct 8, 2011, we rode the Strolling Jim Ride in Wartrace, located in the beautiful hills of Southern Middle Tennessee. On this ride, along with 270 other riders, Ginger encountered many challenges, including: riding through herds of cattle, climbing and going down hills, several creek crossings, paved roads, motorized traffic, 4-wheelers, herds of horses running free in their pastures, a live bluegrass band in the middle of the ride, a train and a cemetery. This short video of highlights from the ride show her exceptional gait, calmness, and adaptability to everything we showed her. Yes, I know the video is a little shaky, but Jenna, who helped me train Ginger, graciously shot this video of me on Ginger, while she was riding along with us. This may be a little backwards, but I chose to show the "finished product" before I uploaded all the training videos. In future videos, I plan to show in a little more detail some of the training methods we used in getting Ginger ready for her first trail ride. This mare, who is for sale will, without a doubt, make a great trail/pleasure horse for her future owner. Sheila, who is with me in much of this video, was riding another of our horses, Rowdy, a 7 year old TWH/SSH gelding (also for sale). Although he was wearing a ribbon in his tail as a precaution, he never had a problem with any horses along the trail.
