Iyesa is originally a rhythm for Ochun the Godess of love, which is played originally on another type of drum. This rhythm was transposed to the Bata drums and it is played mainly for Ochun but also for Elegua, Yemaya in the Oro Cantado and a viro of Ochosi in the Oro Seco.
Nice video!

This is iyesa can be played for many santos. It is kinda messed up some. probably because the people playing are doing a class.

Those are rhythms for Oshosi, right?
Thanks for the video...only wish it was a little longer. :)

The origin of Bata stated in yoruba land, nigeria
I have recently learned Iyessa rhythm transposed to quinto and tumba. It is a funky groove that plays well with funk. Start on the 3.

I would be interested in learning the pattern on conga. I bet it would also sound good using three congas to do the transition (akere) back and forth. Please share more!
