The heels of the feet are essential to engaging the support of the entire system of back body muscles that reside on either side of the spine.
When the heels are released down and away from the ankle, then the calves can stretch and join with the achilles tendon to give a literal spring to the step.
This release below the knee leads to being able to tether the hamstrings up on to the sits bones.
Then the pelvis is better supported from these legs beginning from backside and this is key for support of the lumbar spine and is also key to attaining access to the core muscles.
