Wave following a gigantic calving of Kronebreen in a spot that we were minutes beforehand. Luckily we motored out and were clear of the calving but had to deal with riding a pretty large wave out and dodging icebergs in the meantime. Very eventful moment.

  • I wish I could get there... When did you took this shot? Seriously... I'm writing my Msc about Kongsfjorden and I'm a bit curious...

  • @dfeekt If you get the chance, go there! It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have been. This was taken in July 2005 as part of my undergraduate research. What type of research do you do?

  • Svalbard is so remote and political control so ambiguous that if I ever needed a place to hide where no one would find me that would be the place to go.

  • Do a barrel roll!

  • Ride the barrel and get pitted!!!

  • poooooooooosys

  • Those guys did pretty much the opposite of what you are supposed to do. In deep water you can just ride out the waves but if you start heading into where it gets shallow where the waves break and convert all their energy into transverse momentum instead of logitudinal momentum you are gonna get in trouble.

  • you pussies haha that wave wouldnt of done anything to you, you would of just rode over it.

  • @ltrusel Sedimentary conditions on base of boxcorer and VarVeen samples... pebbles mainly... trying to develop a simple model. The main interest is IRD. And since I soaked in it, I'm seriously thinking about a trip. Costs are frightening but hell... what are those moneyz for?

  • Grab my surfboard, ready for surf. Lol.

Oh Brrrrr !!!!! : ) Just Joking !!! Not really.
