Thank you for posting this. This is quite the "forgotten" musical...famous in its time, but I have never seen it staged. Barbara is adorable, and Keith Andes also great....both so young.

@boinx1234 You are so right! The lovely ingenue Ms. Cook and the score by Arlen can't be any better.

Magnificent chance to see Barbara Cook as an ingenue! And it's also terrific to see Keith Andes in his pre-Lucille Ball days! I would love to see this whole production.

Barbara performed two wonderful concerts with the Boston Pops on May 6th & 7th. The reviewers said:
"... but the evening truly belonged to Cook, who ended her set by putting down her mike and serenading the hall with just her voice and the piano. It was a brave and touching gesture by a singer who ...still knows how to create a frisson of musical excitement. The highlight of the night was ...Barbara Cook, with her signature brand of earthy, tell-it-like-it-is lyricism. "

B. Cook was the first Marian the Librarian in the Music Man. In the early days of TV there were productions of Broadway shows and operettas. Even some original musicals. Thx for the melodic post.

Keith Andes was the leading stage baritone of the 20th Century, right up with Ed Ames in voice and a better actor than any other singer. Her he shows to magnificent advantage. Barbara Cook had a lovely voice, one of the best also. But this scene's honors belong to him. Thanks for finding it at last for his legion of admirers, and hers.
