From 1930, the first year British Pathe newsreels really started making 'soundies' and 'talkies' in earnest. A compilation featuring violinist Albert Sandler, a female aviation pioneer, the Budapest Choir playing to hospital patients outside in the cold, footage of one of the first Welsh Eisteddfodau, spooky Hawaiian harmonies from Clara & Elena Oyuela, jazzers climb to a treehouse for an unusual gig, swimwear fashions, Harry Taft, the Hoodoo Man and the Kentucky Singers, filmed while on a tour of Britain

  • that approach and landing scared the hell out of me.

i guess it was some dude flying it.

  • I've come into this theater quietly. I just want to be left alone. Please respect my privacy. I need some sleep.

  • I laughed at Mr bossyboots telling everyone to move out of the way in the Budapest choir number! He's lucky someone didn't give him a crack on the jaw.

  • Love the dance band records palying as the exercise class is going!

  • There's a nice exhibit on Amy Johnson at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut. Nice to see actual newsreel footage after learning about her life.

  • Great seeing the magnesium flash on the Amy Johnson film! (2-37). I wonder if the guy who grabbed her shoulder was pushing her back to the mike?

  • For a moment I thought they were trying to smoke those people out of the tree house (surreal wicker man type of thing), what is that tune they were dancing to? It's a long way down if they lost their balance! GREAT selection.

  • That was AMY JOHNSON the famous lady flyer.

    Amy, wonderful Amy!

  • Great stuff, particularly P.E. instructor and Tree House, but the footage of The Kentucky Singers singing 'Gonna Shout All Over God's Heaven' is fantastic, great rendition. Have to dig through Pathe Site, for 'Fats' Waller and Stuff Smith In London...thx for post
