More than 15,000 home fires are started by dryer fires every year, usually from lint build-up, but few people are aware of this danger in their home. Meri-K Appy, President of the Home Safety Council, urges TODAY Show viewers to take simple steps to protect their families from dryer fires. Visit www.homesafetycouncil.org to learn more.

  • I just posted a video of a dryer that almost burnt up. It burnt up at the plug. There was lint in the plug!!

  • Over time, lint that sneaks past your clothes dryer's filter collects both in the dryer cabinet and in the dryer vent duct. As lint build-up continues, over-heating can occur, leading to the possibility of a duct fire.

Your dryer manufacturer suggests that the dryer and its venting system be cleaned at least once a year.

  • I do dryer vent cleaning: gmkairductcleaning com

  • Should be rely for house-fixture with vent-air including laundry-room. That will be safe air-out condition of cool down the dryer well. Is lucky, being something block of air-out is possible heat up over-range of the degrees. That will case of fire!!!

  • Dryer with no vent air outside the special pipe???

  • did you add the music?

  • My dryer has no hose, just rigid pipe, and the lint filter was newly cleaned. But recently, I smelled smoke. When I opened the door, there was a small flame coming out of the grill where the heated air enters the dryer, it was easy to extinguish. It must have been dust the built up in the air intake burning. It might have burned itself out if I hadn't noticed it (the clothes were wet), but that's a not much comfort. Unfortunately, you have to take apart the dryer to clean this area.
