A disease that causes death after the mother(as a carrier) passes the trait that doesn't let the brain work very well. All this because of the lack of myelin that covers the neurons.
@AceofDimonds0 yes that is absolutely correct the oil for the cure doesnt actually cue it its just stop the reduction of the breaking down of myelin and makes more mono unsaturates fats and slows down the production of the saturated fats. And what the Odone's needed in the the first place was Pure oleic mono unsaturated fat in tryglyceride form. this was needed for the consumption of it for Lorenzo. They couldnt just use the original olive oil they needed Erucic and oleic acid
lorenzo's oil doesnt cure or stop the disease but it does slow the process.
1 in about 42000 boys get ALD so it is very rare, and even if someone gets it the treatment is very risky. a bone marrow trasplant is the best cure, im not sure how it all works, but a close family member is the best, like a sibling. it doesnt reverse the damage already done but it can be known to stop the progression of the disease.
The mothers are carriers because the father has the y chromosone.
anyways my father has it and his 2 brothers they moved to IL to get treatment I am a carrier so if I was to have a boy 50/50 chance he would have it,so I found out I was a carrier when I was PREGNANT and watched lorenzoes oil after that...went to a genetic counselor when I was 18 weeks preg. they did a ultrasound and it was a boy.
And the Lorenzo' s oil is good for just that one missing enzyme (peroksysomal ?) what about other enzymes like glycerine. The boy has also the disability to break fats. He is being adopted and at the orphanage they didn't give him the oil becasue they say it's for something different. Can anybody help.

I have something to say about this.
This is a very, very, very rare disease.
The mothers are carriers because the father has the y chromosone.
