The power of a locomotive is truely amazing. This vetran Canadian National Railway SD40-2W demonstrates what it can do on the very hilly CN Iowa Division. We chased this train from Seward Illinois to East Dubuque Illinois. This is Part II of 2 which covers a couple of interesting points on the line. The first shot covers the Wig-Wag in Galena, and the second covers the tunnel/ CN/BNSF diamond in East Dubuque. This was my first time ever shooting at a tunnel.

*****Another for the record: at 2:05-2:06 the conductor was talking to another railfan at the tunnel and he said "What's Up Freddy?" in a weird voice, nothing mean or obscene.

  • That Tunnel location Is Really Cool! Deffinatly no space for Autoracks in there!

  • Yeah I know, this was the first time that I'd ever shot there. I remember when they tried to run autoracks a BNSF detour.....t didn't go so well lol

  • Nice CN SD40-2! But CN needs to fix that old Wig Wag malfunction!!

  • Yeah I agree with both of your statements.

  • Nice!

  • Thank you!

  • @Derailedtrain666 Theres been rumours going around lately the UP and CN made a deal to start running intermobile between Chicago and Omaha but the East Dubuque tunnel is holding up the deal so for right now UP drops off intermobile in cedar rapids CN takes it up to manchester to the CN mainline on its way to omaha

  • Just listening to that engine roar brings back so many memories.

  • This Wig Wag - e-bell combination really made my day... Oh my god!!! One of a kind, especially since the e bell is acting (or at least trying to do so) like a wig wag bell... Who came up this this idea??? I'd prefer a mechanical bell over an e bell at any time - but this is so weird it's great again!

  • The tunnel in East Dubuque, IL, (formerly Dunleith) crosses the Mississippi from Dubuque, IA at one end and enters E. Dub on the other. The rails follow the Mississippi southeast. It's a great railfan place.

  • Do you think this wigwag will retire (as of summer 2012)?

  • Geez...........they could ahve given them at least another GP-38 or something.

  • I hope that is not a time sensative train.

  • Where is that in Galena?Would ove to see that wig wag. Reason he was slowing more than likely was the yard in Dubuque.Love breezing through there.

  • Going straight up that hill out of dubuque? hell yea.

  • welcome to Galena, IL.
