How could a civilization that mastered the planet suddenly Collapse? Inspired by the New York Times best-selling book "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed", NGC time travels 200 years into the future to see what the world would look like after civilization as we know it collapsed. Guided by author Jared Diamond, we'll piece together the remarkable story of what on earth triggered our decline
If we continue to allow criminals to run the systems of the world, that is how it will end. Did not watch it; but that is the answer.

Jared makes a habit of makeing illogical statements The gas mileage bit is Stupid on it's surface. Your car used to get 500 miles on a tank and now gets 1000 so now your going to drive an extra 500 miles? Where will you drive to? realize how long that would take? And the next time you fill your tank your, repeat the process for your entire lifespan hand the car off to your children (if you had time to create and raise any)? Oh, I forgot, this is LALA Land For The Intelectualy Bankrupt

@vlada881 Yes, Jevon says the more energy efficient we are, the more efficient we are at using up the energy. So for example, a higher gas mileage car will simply enable us to us drive further on a tank of gas, so we do. This is what fuels the exponential growth.
It's not a matter of energy efficiency, but a matter of transition from a world of finite resources being used up to meet exponential growth. We need to shift to a more steady-state economy and renewable energy.

It is no doubt enlightening about the survival of the planet itself. v should better behave.

Energy efficiency wont save the day bc of "Jevons paradox".
