Carol

The first time I saw Carol, I almost didn't talk to her. I assumed she was a volunteer helping the homeless in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Turns out, she was homeless.

Carol says sh is homeless because of the economy. She had a stable job in a restaurant, but when the economy went sour, her hours became reduced to the point that she could not pay her bills. Her husband had a work-related injury preventing him from full-time employment.

Like many of the other people I have met in my travels, Carol and her husband never imagined they would ever experience homelessness. They see themselves as normal, hardworking grandparents whose needs are simple. They hope to find assistance and get into an apartment before the cold weather arrives.

From reading all of your comments shows that all of your are totally merciless in your faith. Not all homeless peopled are drunks and into drugs! All of you will experience this and then you will not be so judgmental. Our country is in deep trouble and there is no hope unless we consider major changes and even though, the recovery is long term. I am ashamed of most of you with your negative attitudes!

@WadeElvisMan Hey Wade, I agree with private organizations need to coordinate this. I am not sure of how much you have been out there with the homeless. We have a whole new breed of homeless.. It is not just the stereotyped version we were accustomed to in the past. I have been volunteering on homeless projects. The new homeless are now the working poor AND those impacted by the economy. Laid off Baby Boomers are also impacted and the last to get hired when they can hire young people.

I agree 100%, but the government don't "really" care, so it's up too churches, and private citizens, special groups,non profit organizations, etc....etc... WE ALL should do more for the homeless, not give them $10 or so, they would MOST likely just buy booze or drugs..I offered to help many with food, clothing etc, 98% say NO..... they want drug money not "food money"..it's so sad....a HUGE mess, but I belive IF we had the right president, he/she could change ALL of the mess....

@WadeElvisMan While I think it is great you are willing to help, what I would like to see is someone like invisiblepeopletv and others like them to start a program like they have for children abroad. I would like to see an adopt a homeless person program. As many buildings as are empty in this country do to the outsourcing and the downturn in the economy which have been seized by the banks, why would it not be possible to set some up for training, housing, and stepping stones? just a thought
