8 Lines is a short movie of 8 minutes that explors the frequent and repetitive trips the author makes between Utrecht and Chaves, a small town in the north of Portugal. The footage, shot between 2002 and 2004, focus on the redundancy and multiplicity that most migrants have to deal with while traveling from their place of residency to their place of origin. The short movie uses as its bases the minimalist music of the composer Steve Reich and the mixing techniques of the DJ Howie B.

  • A more precise way to phrase that would be, if Mingus were to make a video about Reich's music, I think it would be like this.

  • I think if Charles Mingus were a cinematographer he would make a video like this to Reich's music. (I can't even imagine a better compliment. Congrats on your very emotionally moving and artistically moving work of video art.)
