This video is the same as the 'LMS 8F 8624', but without the music. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h68yllkLARI)

25th April 2009 was the first time since 1965 the LMS 8F, number 8624, run under own steam. This was the culmination of 28 years hard work by a dedicated band of volunteers that make up the 48624 Society. Resuced from Barry Scrap Yard in South Wales the locomotive first went to the original Peak Rail base at Buxton before moving to Darley Dale in 1991. The vast majority of the restoration has been undertaken outside with only the final few months of work being undertaken inside. This video records the momentus day when she finally came to life again.

  • First time I've ever seen a loco set off without any drain cocks.:P

Well done to all those involved in her restoration though, looks like you've done a good job!:)

  • Yep, she certainly did a good job of cleaning the old leaves out of the ballast!

  • Alanlmsca - thanks for guiding me to the no- music version, much much better. Good to see another Eight Freight back in service.

  • Well done guys, this is an impressive achievement.

  • She is beuuuuu-ti-ful :)

  • Sorry for the late reply Mick ! Yes that was Reg, There is a glimpse of the man himself on the 8f pages on peak rails website, scroll down a fair way! And yes I remember speaking to you on the Sat. Hope you can make it back soon !

  • Simon, was Reg the grey haired chap with glasses? I spoke to you on sat, i did a bit of painting, but i have a garage and had to start working as it got very busy.

  • Congrats guys, I know just how you feel, It took us 18 years to do 5643, now at Llangollen and that first move under its own power, is, as the ad says, priceless. Will see you Saturday 23rd Like the colour, bet it gets a lot of publicity in the railway press.

  • well done lads. great!

  • Did a little painting with Paul and his mates,a very devoted band of saviours of a fine loco. I take my hat off to you all, and i am sure all those people that have worked on it in the past are looking down and saying "well done"
