This is a general skinning tutorial for rigging a mesh to a biped bone structure. But is specialized for exporting to the game Fate by Wild Tangent.

  • I put the link to the specific post in the video description (for whatever reason, I couldn't put the link in this post), the script is saved on the forum.

I should tell you that if you have max 8 or higher, you already have this feature integrated into the material editor, so read the manual, specifically on the material editor. If you have max 7 or lower, this script is a godsend!

  • if you can't see your bones they are hidden. right click outside the mesh and click "unhide all" or you can click the "select by name" button on the top toolbar and then select bones and then unhide. If you only want to see bones, you can hide the mesh but once you've properly skinned the mesh to the bones they will move the same.

  • yeah I was only modeling as a hobby, a very very, very time consuming hobby that I could no longer afford. I miss it but it is better to get on with real life :)

  • yeah when I made this, it was for the purpose of modding Fate by Wild Tangent which only has exporters for 3dsmax7. I no longer mod or use max but you can check out my mods on the WT Fate modding forums :)

  • redfoxarts, it really isn't that hard to learn.just follow the tutorial here or find one on the web--there are so many. If you have that many models you're going to have to learn it eventually

  • funny, thanks heron. I hope it helps everyone "know how it's made" and get making some armor, lol.

  • Man! you said that modeling was your hobby? That's a good hobby. Why did you say that it's not concerned with the real life? you can do jobs in Modeling characters in various animation studios if you learn to model really good characters. Well, That was a good video.
