So 9 months after that surgery, I'm still getting massive jaw aches. I dont know if thats normal or not, but grill your surgeon about it before it gets done, mine never warned me about it.
@NewYorkStateOfCrime If you're nervous about it look on google for mandibular advancement surgery and there's a great journal that really helped me. They didnt give me any pills because my mouth wouldnt open far enough for me to take them, but they did give me liquid oxycodone which will take away any pain or discomfort and you will go right to sleep. They also gave me 8 bottles of children's ibuprofen and i only used two of them. It was definately worth it, I am more confident now! good luck!
@HomeB123 Ok thank you. I will be getting this surgery within the next 3 months, but first I have to get my wisdom teeth removed and they have to heal and then I can get the surgery. I also would like to know, did they give you and medication ? I had surgery on my leg before and Ihad to take pain killers and I hate pills. And last, but not least, do you feel the surgery was worth it ? I am kind of nervous about this whole idea.
@NewYorkStateOfCrime i am now fully recovered, but the rubberbands my orthodontist tells me to wear makes my jaw hurt a little, but he says this is normal and to just take ibuprofen. I get my braces off on April 13!!! that's 5 months after surgery. my jaw does look different. people tell me im much prettier now, mostly because my teeth aren't pushing my lips out. are you planning on getting the surgery?
@NewYorkStateOfCrime it's not too many questions. after the surgery, i was really uncomfortable for 5 days, but on the 6th day i was feeling a lot better and the swelling had gone down. After a month and a half i was able to eat solid food. i lost 10 pounds, but i think people who weigh more might lose more. i started at 118 and went down to 108. and 105 was my lowest point. you have to keep reminding yourself to take it easy even if you feel better because your body is still healing.
@HomeB123 Are you fully recovered ? Do you look a lot different ? How much longer until your braces come off ? And also did you lose any weight ? Sorry if this is a lot to answer.
Thanks... I'm getting this soon and I'm only 13... I'm extremly terrified cus I've never had surgery or even been in the hospital that long... And I can't even remember what happened to me that caused my jaw to stop growing :(
