Employing the scarf joint to add a foreshaft to atlatl darts and/or to join short shafting material to make a longer atlatl dart.

  • These videos are great! Thanks. A question: the spine, it seams to me that the flex should be such that a complete wave, with the 'zero' point (like a sine wave) is in the middle of the dart.

    Is that accurate?

  • @longbeforedawn: It actually seems to function better if the flex is more towards the rear of the dart. This is why bamboo and cane work so well (the front 3rd is thicker and stronger causing it to flex less. This seems to keep the point end on target better.

  • you hollow out then main shaft and taper one end of foreshaft and just wedge it in.

But I use the tube scarf joint and it works well. Just do what Tom says here but use bamboo or some other thing similar and wrap it with cordage. It works great. Just check out my latest atlatl vid.

  • how do you make a foreshaft so that you can change them out? cuz ive had to use glue all the time.

  • what is on your waist a knife?
