Take out your maf sensor and check the connections inside it. My 87 NA did the same thing until i did that. Or if you have the money just buy a new maf. If could also be a vacuum leak as well. I replaced all my vacuum hoses and it starts right up and runs fine now. I just have a problem with it idling too high now.
Yea it was one of the first years of fuel injection, they were still trying to work out the kinks. Look at my video, its a MAF sensor problem except for mine is N/A.

no my car did the same thing check ur exhoust manifold its probly really loose being that its fuel injected could have a stuck injector

hmm... yeahp sounds like its a vacuum line or MAF jammed. landcruiser did same, when the MAF sensor came unplugged.
