Recorded 12/18/2005 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Tucson, Arizona (www.lutherantucson.org)
This video is movement 7: "Domine Deus, Agnus Dei".
The Chancel Choir provides musical leadership for the Sunday morning 8:45am Traditions worship service. All who enjoy singing are welcome to join the choir.
It's actually simpler than thatf. As a director, if you have an alto/contralto that can pull it off, good on ya. Otherwise, it's the wiser director who will have an 8 (on a scale to 10) as an ensemble, than a 2 for a soloist. Not only that, ruin a soloist on this piece, and you'll scare the rest away later. But you're right, it should be a solo...if you have a soloist, who can handle it. It's challenging. If not, there's 2 choices; let the section sing it...or choose another piece of music.

i have to agree with everyone else. this really need NOT be sung by the entire alto section, especially with some old warblers in there! YUK! nothing worse than old church lady vocal warble!

who uses the entire alto section for this piece? Just not a good choice by the conductor/director.

I know, that's a soprano solo with obligato Oboe, this should still be a contalto solo, not the whole section! or how would you get the contrast between the choral parts and the solo part

no, you guys are thinking of Domine Deus....this is Domine Deus, Agnus Dei - TOTALLY different song

This is supposed to be a contralto solo. Wasn't there one woman in that whole choir who could have pulled it off?
