Landing at Heimaey in the Westman Islands Iceland

This video shot May 3, 2009 from my flight to the Westman Islands, Heimaey. A very cool place! Dramatic cliffs and a hardened lava flow surround the town. The eruption in 1973 nearly wiped out the town, but the town fought back the lava and won. Very cool place. The Volcano cone, Mt. Eldfell did not exist prior to 1973.

Glad you liked it slobomotion. I took the ferry off the island on that trip. The plane ride from Reykavik was cheap and allowed me to hike the entire Island for the day and in time to catch the ship back. I must get back there some day. The plane was not scary this time.

This is one of the most beautiful and memorable places I have ever visited, and I hope to see the Orkney Islands too, as my one visit to Scotland was excellent. I just love Iceland and this island (we went by ship) is just extraordinary. Thank you for this! Greetings from France.
