Act III, scene 1. In a Rapunzel-like image, this is one of the most disturbingly sensual scenes in opera.

Taken from the Welsh National Opera production with Alison Hagley as Mélisande and Neill Archer as Pelléas. Conducted by Pierre Boulez and Directed by Peter Stein.

One of the most visually stunning productions of Pelléas et Mélisande. The whole production looks like a moving canvass of impressionist paintings.

It was symbolist theater. The script is definitely bizarre by today's standards. The point of it is to disconnect yourself with reality and the tangible. It's definitely not meant to be taken literally.

  • Everytime I'm listening some of the most beautiful singing and music, and the singers' mouths are moving dramatically in another language I don't know, but the close captioning reveals the most stupid stuff. I don't really want to know what they're saying.

    .

  • Oh, the sound isn't synchronized. What a pity, it's such a great production!
