Actually, his father's nickname was "Sluggo", given to him by friends and coworkers. When Sean was born, he was handed down the nickname "Little Slug". Which was eventually shortened down to "Slug" for obvious reasons. I'm sure you're parents gave you a nickname at some point in your childhood, this is no different.
