  • The average person would listen to this and say that it's a good song but no person in the world could do a better job at this song than Richard Manuel, from The Band (the original artist). I don't think Jack Johnson is showing the same ammount of emotion in this song that Richard Manuel did.

  • naw....Jack Johnson did his very own version of this song...but i think its a nice way to bring out other emotions...Richard Manuel's song is awesome ! No Matter !

  • this was on the Endless Highway highlighting covers of music from The Band.... bob dylan did do a lot of music with The Band for a long time, but the best version is certainly by The Band. I wouldn't call this a cover of Bob Dylan

  • Youre right :P

Did a lil research and found a lot of versions of this Song...Happy now ? =)

  • The best version is definitely from The Last Waltz-concert. It's super.

  • @LocalRailfan the original artist is Bob Dylan dipshit

  • from jimmy buffet n on jack johnson can make any classic is personal song and make it better in his own way

  • @LocalRailfan check out the jeff buckley live version if you want to hear some emotion. theres a great version he does on a radio show over the phone

  • Jeff Buckley's cover of this song is top notch... my personal favorite. Not a fan of Jack Johnson or this version but this song has been covered by a ton of people that did it pretty well.

  • @LocalRailfan

The band was the first to record it but Dylan wrote it and recorded it later himself.

  • I just realized that I said that The Band was the original artist. Duh, Bob Dylan also wrote (some with The Band) This Wheel's on Fire, When I Paint My Masterpiece and a few others, my faveourite one that The Band covered by him was this song or Blind Willie McTell.

  • @LocalRailfan

I prefer the Bands version better as well, but you should do some fact checking before you make a best ever declaration. It was bob Dylan that wrote this song and first performed it many years before the band. Bob truly poured his heart into writing and performing this song.

  • @LocalRailfan Dylans version is all I like. Jack Johnson sounds like a little kid to me.

  • jack johnson you just moved up 20 notches on my list

  • @LocalRailfan I believe that it was actually Bob Dylan.. :P
