I read Gary's book. One sentence can describe his father Bing. 'Totally dysfunctional as a father'. Bing Crosby as a father....creepy.

It's unbelievable that people who know nothing about Bing make comments here that he should "rot in hell." Gary Crosby was a liar and his book was sensationalistic to sell books. I am not defending Bing as a father: he was gone all the time, he did physically abuse his sons. He admitted it. But he gave more pleasure to more people in the 20th century than anyone else. So get over it.

@brandonok10 B.D Hyman, Bette Davis' daughter, was also a liar. She took advantage of the pain the public felt for Christina Crawford-who's accounts of abuse by Joan were verified by friends of Joan who actually witnessed some of them- and Gary Crosby and wanted to have the same. She was greedy, spoiled, wanted attention and was upset at her mother for not joining her in becoming a born-again Christian. At least Gary was willing to wait until years after his father died to expose the truth.

@brandonok10 I am a fan of Bing Crosby's music and acting myself. However, that doesn't excuse the abuse he gave the first four sons he had through his marriage to Dixie Lee. Bing was a typical example of a drunken lout when it came to fathering these four. The only one of these four sons who denied it, Phillip, poorly did so and stated "we never got an extra whack or a cuff we didn't deserve." Gary was also born in 1933, just so you know as well

Gary suffered even more than the other two sons who committed suicide, Lindsay and Dennis. They both had the guts to admit this. The other child from his first marriage to Dixie Lee, Phillip, denied it ever happened, but poorly did so and even stated that "we didn't get an extra whack or a cuff we didn't deserve." Bing would forcibly stand by Gary to watch him get weighed in the bathroom and would beat him senselessly if he just weighed too much for his liking.

@brandonok10 I don't think the typical father of the 50s had 2 sons committing suicide. That is a bottom line of how we should look at Bing and his legacy. I know he is not alone in his behaviour .. but he played such a nice guy I for one fell lied to and cheated out of something I can't quite put my finger on. Bing .. rot in hell.
