IBM rounded out the zEnterprise System family with the addition of an entry-level hybrid mainframe, the zEnterprise 114 (z114), which joins the large-scale zEnterprise 196 (z196).
The z114, targeted for mid-sized and new-to-z clients, offers lower acquisition and operational costs than a distributed infrastructure. zEnterprise applications and workloads can span the mainframe on z/OS, be consolidated onto Linux on System z or connect across to Power blades with AIX and System x blades running Linux (and in the future, Microsoft Windows). This is significant for clients that seek maximum flexibility and dependability in their environments.
