end game can be quite elegant if you do it right
-
It may be the slowest, but Bishoping the a pawn after knighting the b pawn is definitely the sexiest way to win.
-
Actually i stand corrected. a7 is faster. If you do pb7+ then Fritz puts his king at a7. If you move your rook to c8 then blacks rook refuses to exchange instead he starts checking. You end up winning either way. but a7 is faster.
-
Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't pb7+ even faster? King can only make two moves. If ka7, then Rc8. If rook takes then queen promotion.
If Kb8 then Kb6. Then he MUST move his rook, any move he makes pa7 checkmate.
I like pb7+ best.

It is mate. Check it out ;-)

just a7 is so much simpler Kb7 rc7, etc

@Chessczar simpler as in fewer moves, yes. That's not the point of this video. Read the description please.

I would play a shorter variation starting with: 1 a7,but in move 4 b7+instead I'd play 4 Rc8 and next move mate is unavoidable 5 b7++.Here is the variation: 1 a7,Kb7 / 2 Rc7+,Ka8 / 3 Ka6,Rb8 / 4 Rc8,Rxc8(forced move) 5 b7++ mate!!!

@Evarishi 1.a7 is faster.

In the beginning. a7 or b7 can also lead to mate don't you think?

1.Rc8+ is the most interesting win, but 1.a7 and 1.b7+ both win as well, with 1.a7 being the shortest path to checkmate.
