  • @blackerthanblackdog Western Pleasure, it's only one aspect of the western discipline (: Not everyone uses draw reins on their horses. Please don't shoot down western riding because of a video you saw. Draw reins aren't bad if you use them with moderation for a tune-up on your seasoned horse. Unfortunately, some riders think that draw reins are a necessity during all rides. Believe me, I tried it for two weeks last summer and it took a month to get my horse back to the way he was before.

  • @horsemylover747 I post when I ride western, there's no rule against it. It's extremely hard to long trot a barrel horse to a sitting trot. Only pleasure/horsemanship horses do you sit a jog, because it's easy enough that you aren't bounced around. How would you like someone bouncing all over your back if you were a highpowered animal that runs barrels or chases steers?

  • at horsemylover

shes probably just showing how she can move out to english!!! DUH!! she just said that!

  • I can only say, be careful not to over-bend her through the poll or she may end up with nice big muscle knots about 8 inches behind her poll and will not engage her hind or get any elevation through the withers (aka true collection).

At this stage I would not work the horse in draw reins but would focus on picking her up off her forehand, she's dumping on it and trailing her hindend somewhere out the back. (Watch the hocks).

  • Well I'm not accusing you of cruelty, Ive seen it used on english horses, but I just thought the whole point of western riding was that it was natural and work-man-like. To make the horses work in such a weird unnatural out-line is just....unfathomable....Lost for words...I might as well stick to English riding.

  • to keep thier head down below thier withers. i have seen people use crueler methods.

  • Why the hell are you using draw reins on a western horse?

  • i dont think she's for sale

  • how much is she
