Pictures compiled from Mars Rover Spirit using the front HAZCAM left side lens from martian days (sols) 1724 through 2130. This video documents the 6th year on Mars. Rover is currently stuck in a sand trap, and video documents shows how it got into it, and how it is trying to get out. Click the "view in HD" to to see the high resolution compilation.
Would it have been a good idea to have retractable arm with a rotating sail to help it push it out of situations like that? Mars does get very windy at times. It could also be useful just to help it travel.

these past 40 + years have been great for space travel: the moon missions voyager 1-2 , jupiter missions, saturn missions, venus and mecury missions, now you have missions to pluto missions i think it will arrive 2015-16 missions to mars in the past but nothing as in depth as spirit & oppertunity which have lasted long past their missions, i just say keep up the good work NASA P.S. we also had astroid landinds comet flybys gathering dust grains, and others i have not mentioned. Thanks NASA.

that would be like blowing in the sails :)
anyone know if it got out of the sand trap?

That would end the usefulness of the arm. Remember there are delicate scientific instruments in there.
It's like when your car gets stuck, and all you have is your $500 computer. You aren't going to run over the computer unless you really have to and you're that desperate.

they coulda got it going if they stuck the arm that was collecting under the tire so it has something to grip on. Like you put some wood under a tire, or the other one.. :)
