The long-awaited Beacon Cinema on Pittsfield's North Street was formally opened with a film cutting on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009. The $23 million, spliced together with private and public funding, includes six state-of-the-art theaters and restaurant, retail and office space in the refurbished Kinnell-Kresge building.
The cinemas actually opened at midnight with simultaneous screenings of "New Moon." Some 850 tickets were sold for the "Twilight" sequel.
