This shows an 8mm Prusik on new 11mm low-stretch rope slipping at 1515 lbf (6.7 kN), as measured with a dynomometer. This is the intended function of a Prusik in this application. The slip-and-grab effect is a "safety valve" to reduce any excessive peak forces in the system, while also providing a visual indicator of the situation.

  • Scaryest shit ever is when the rope slips like a foot and the prusik catches it... and then the sudden stop hurts too cause its static rope!!

  • Another nice thing about a prusik -- you can drop that thing off a building and it is good to go, not so much with a hard rope grab!

  • I have a singel prusik fuse to a 11m static. It was used as a shock absorber to arrest a fall. Fused it solid, can't get it off, but it did not fail. A cam would have sheared to rope. plus a prusik cost me about $4 a cam cost $35

  • Interesting video ;)
